What is Sowing Futuros?
The non-profit organization Sowing Futuros is dedicated to aiding the most marginalized people in Nicaragua by providing micro-loans to women in one of the poorest communities of Managua and to sustainable farmers in the country. These micro-loans empower them to start their own businesses or help with what they are already doing, ultimately helping to improve their livelihoods.
What are micro-loans?
Micro-loans are small, short-term loans which are typically offered to individual people or or small businesses who could lack access to traditional financial services. These loans are designed to support these businesses and try to reduce poverty by providing the necessary money for starting or expanding small businesses, especially in underdeveloped countries. Micro-loans often have no interest rate or a very low interest rate which is more flexible for repayment compared to larger loans. They are usually provided by microfinance institutions, non-profits, or peer-to-peer lending platforms. The goal of micro-loans is to empower these borrowers to achieve financial independence and improve their economic status.
