Meet some of our loan recipients

Below are 3 of the many women micro-loan recipients who are located in Managua, Nicaragua and 2 of the sustainable farmer from La Paz, and how they are using their micro-loan.

Lizeth Brown

Lizeth bakes and sells different types of bread (pan costeño) out of her home. Since receiving $350 from our micro-loans program, she has been able to buy a bigger propane gas oven and tank of propane to bake bread more efficiently and increase volume of production. She now also has started making fruit cakes and baking finger foods, and getting orders in advance for events and meetings as well as buying more materials such as bread pans and utensils.

Pedro Nicoya Jimenez

Pedro is a beekeeper and farmer. With his loan he wanted to increase his planting of sugar cane and he also wanted to buy fertilizers to prep the land. Now, Pedro’s sugar cane will be ready to harvest in November. He was able to plant beans in between the rows of sugar cane. With these profits, he is making his loan payments and has also been able to plant plantain trees to add another source of income.

Ana Altamirano

Ana sells used clothing out of her home. With her mirco-loan she plans to buy a better, higher quality, and larger assortment of clothes. She also wants to convert front of her home into a store front for easier business. She wants to improve the area she already works in, so clothes don't get wet, dusty or dirty with the weather. 

Francisco Lopez

Francisco is a farmer who sells rice, beans and corn.    With his loan he wanted to start planting vegetables such as tomatoes and onions and other small crops, in his empty field. He also needed to purchase fertilizer. Now, Francisco has harvested his beans and corn and has sold them at local markets and to neighbors for a profit of $300.  With the profits, he has been able to make his loan payments and also invested in fertilizers for the second planting of beans and corn. The rice will be ready to harvest in November. He has also used some of the profit to purchase wire for enclosing his field.

Katherine Andrade

Katherine is a nail technician and artist. Prior to the loan, she only did manicures and wanted to buy a bowl for pedicures and get more supplies. She also wanted to pay for air conditioning and proper ventilation for the place she has her station. She has now bought a heat drying lamp and a nail table, two chairs, a nail drill and some additional accessories. She has used earnings to help cover costs of daughter's eye surgery.
